Artist: Morning Glory
Album: War Psalms
Source: Spotify
Pre-listening Notes: This band has a member from Choking Victim in it. They are a punk band. It has other people who are involved in New York punk bands. I'm going in with some serious reservations, as I am not typically down with these types of punk bands.
Initial Reaction: Okay this is a lot more melodic than I had expected. I think the first song was just an intro. I lost track while working on something.
Random Thoughts: The third song is a little more like I expected them all to be. It's still way more produced than I thought. The songs are punk. It's fast, but not real fast. So far I haven't been able to pick out any themes lyrically. Oh, and then there are horns. The vocals are what they are, nothing unique about it. The song I am a Machine Gun is kind of long and boring. There isn't anything terribly wrong with this, but it's another case of there also being nothing terribly right with it either. I'd rather listen to something dull in this genre, than something that might be just above average in another one that interests me less. That is my backhanded compliment about this. Some of it is catchy, don't get me wrong.
Final Reaction: I gave it a shot and while I am not going to go out shouting to the masses to listen to this album. If you are into punk and don't mind it to be a little corny at times, then this might be up your alley. I will most likely never listen to this again, but it's not from a complete lack of entertainment, just due to the need to listen to this ever again.
