Pre-listening Notes: Finally, some metal! Two bands, one who has been doing it for over 20 years and another who features members who have been doing it for a while but are still relatively new as a band. Exhumed, I have heard before and IR, I have not. Exhumed plays old school death metal/grind/gore metal (which I'm not even sure is a genre so much as the lyrical content). Iron Reagan, I am gathering is more on the thrashy side. 4 songs each, 12 minutes total! Here goes.
Initial Reaction: Exhumed is up first, saw this band prior to the hiatus, and they ruled! This rips! Iron Reagan is pretty ripping, almost like a more early DRI version of Municipal Waste. I dig it!
Random Thoughts: Great mixture of death growls and more "cleaner" vocals. I am not sure how it happened, but I seem to be getting more and more into death stuff as I get older, which I would think would be the opposite of what would be expected. Okay, so this is a Minor Threat cover and I love everything about this! And now a Negative Approach cover, yes! I have to admit, I don't know why I slept on Iron Reagan so much, it's somewhere in between Municipal Waste, early style DRI, and something more punk. Some of this wouldn't have surprised me to show up on some early Municipal Waste albums. Fast, intense, thrash! Into it!
Final Reaction: Overall both bands killed it. Exhumed keeping me as a fan and Iron Reagan making me a fan. My dad will hate it!
Final Grade: 9.0/10
