Day 6: Backtrack - Lost in Life

Artist:  Backtrack
Album:  Lost in Life

Pre-listening Notes:  Prior to this listen, I was not a fan of Backtrack.  We will see if this release does anything to change that.  I've seen them a few times and I've never been impressed.  They are a New York Hardcore band.  I've seen comparisons to other NYHC bands, like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, and Madball.  Some of my favorite hardcore bands for sure, but I have never heard that in this band.  So, here goes.

Initial Reaction:  First song does nothing for me.  It's got things that I like, but there is just something about it that I can't seem to get into.  I don't know if it's the whole polished sound of it or if I'm just tapped out on music of this style that I can take.  This is just generic.  When I hear something in this style, I want to either imagine, or know, that the singer could rip my face off.

Random Thoughts:  Second song, same as the first.  Breakdowns are nothing special, lyrics don't grab my attention.  I can't put my finger on who this reminds me of, but maybe it's just too a little melodic for me.  Similar to a Comeback Kid, who I could also never really get in to.  All of the songs kind of blend together for me.  I hear the breaks, so I know where one song begins and another ends.  I really have nothing to say about this album.

Final Reaction:  I mean, this isn't the worst thing ever, but this is not for me.  In the grand scheme of things, I'd rather listen to this than that Self Defense Family album again, but that's really if those are my only two options.  I also now think I gave that album too high of a rating, because I don't want to give this one lower.  But, since I think only like 5 people read this a day, I'm just going to give this lower, and probably edit that one to lower.

Final Grade:  4.0 /10
