Day 15: Indian - From All Purity

Artist:  Indian
Album:  From All Purity
Source:  http://pitchfork.com/advance/316-from-all-purity/

Pre-listening Notes:  Here is another one I know very little about.  It's streaming on Pitchfork, which worries me a little.  The bio says "Oh dear, this will pull your teeth out. Get a kick in the tummy by doomsters Indian from Chicago...." so there is that.  Their Bandcamp page calls them blackened noise nihilists, so there is also that.  Beyond that, I guess, I am only really expecting something heavy.  Apparently they have been around for a decade and this is their fifth album.  So, here goes!

Initial Reaction:  The opening is noisy, for sure.  Okay, now it just got a little doomy.  Vocals are of the strained scream variety, which is fine by me.  I like the heavier parts more than the noisier parts.  Not a terrible sound, this could be alright.

Random Thoughts:   Song two is starting out much more sludgy and doomy.  I'm liking this song a lot more than the first one.  It's heavy!  Yeah, that one made my beer bottle rattle a little.  The heavy continues, it's a little repetitive so far, but I'm into the basic premise of it.  Alright, Rhetoric of No starts off with a little speed to it.  It slowed down, though.  Turned heavy, as well.  Okay, so far halfway through the song Clarify, it's all noise.  Not into straight noise tracks.  Yeah, it's all noise.  Last song is another heavy one, along with the second song, I think those were my two favorites on the album!

Final Reaction:   I may not have felt like I got my teeth pulled out or kicked in the tummy, but overall five of the six tracks brought the heavy!  I dug it, Spotify has 3 of the other 4 albums to check out, which I will.  I'd be into seeing it live, so bring it on to Buffalo, Indian.

Final Grade:  7.0/10
